Social Commentator and a former General Secretary of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Yaw Asani Tano, has urged the appointees of the ruling party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to take a cue from what is happening between the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
Mr. Asani Tano elucidated that there is no way the NPP will come to power and not prosecute appointees of the Mahama administration if they should find instances of financial misappropriation and other illegal activities.
Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo morning show on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Mr. AsaniTano maintained that the bigger lessons should be learned by the NDC because they are in power.
"I am of the view that people in office must be held accountable for their deeds. Ken Ofori-Atta is not different from anybody else. The only difference is that he had the opportunity to manage Ghana's economy for the benefit of the people...… Who is Ken Ofori-Atta to be playing hide-and-seek with the OSP?
"It is a lesson not only to the NPP. The lesson itself goes to the NDC. As for the NPP, they are already in opposition, with some appointees waiting to account for their stewardship. However, you in the NDC must learn from what is happening because I don't think the NPP will come to power and sit aloof to assume that you are blameless while in service."
Mr. Asani Tano's comment follows the ongoing legal battle between the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, and the OSP, headed by Kissi Agyebeng, where Mr. Agyebeng redeclared Mr. Ofori-Atta wanted and a fugitive from Justice after failing to appear before the OSP on June 2, 2025, citing ill-health and a scheduled medical procedure on June 13, 2025, in the United States of America.
In a press briefing on Monday, June 2, 2025, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng described Mr. Ofori-Atta's posture towards the OSP as unacceptable, thereby reentering his name into the wanted list of the OSP.
