Sammi Awuku, MP for Akuapim North, has criticised the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, stating it threatens judicial independence and could erode justice.

He believes the move is an example of unchecked power.

“Constitutional democracy must be protected. We are witnessing troubling attempts that may intimidate the Judiciary and influence its independence.

“History reminds us that absolute power can erode the very foundations of justice.”

"This moment marks a concerning chapter in Ghana’s democratic journey!” Mr Awuku said in a post on Facebook.

President John Dramani Mahama suspended the Chief Justice following the establishment of a prima facie case about three separate petitions seeking her removal from office.
