Parliament has approved the repeal of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy), a controversial tax on electronic transactions introduced in 2022.
The repeal, part of a broader effort to ease the tax burden on citizens, follows public backlash and concerns about its impact on low-income earners and financial inclusion.
The bill awaits President John Dramani Mahama’s formal assent before taking effect.
President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had made the repeal of the E-Levy a key campaign promise ahead of the December 2024 elections.
