Celebrated media personality Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, has opened up about a challenging chapter in her early media career, revealing how she was dismissed from Adom FM without pay or formal recognition.
Speaking at the AYA Women’s Summit on June 30, 2025, Delay shared her story of resilience and reinvention, encouraging young women to persevere through rejection and setbacks.
"I first came to radio when I was 17. I worked with Live FM... I worked with Adom FM for a year. On Adom, I used to come on air at 12 midnight and close at 4 AM. I never got paid because I wasn't considered a worker,” she revealed. “Until one Mr. Fredrick Nuamah sacked me, saying my services weren’t needed.”
Delay said the abrupt dismissal was a heavy blow to her ambitions, forcing her to step away from media for a while. But her passion remained. She returned in 2005 when Top Radio relaunched its station and offered her another chance. “I stayed there for two years, and then Oman FM came for me. I worked there for nine years.”
Her transition into television, now a hallmark of her brand, also had its own humble beginnings. Delay credited Rex Annang, a media professional she met during a TV3 audition, for introducing her to the world of television. “Rex was one of the guys who did the audition, and he later helped usher me into TV.”
Now one of Ghana’s most recognizable media moguls, Delay’s story is a reminder of the power of persistence, self-belief, and the importance of staying the course even when doors slam shut.
