President John Dramani Mahama has called on all Ghanaians to remain vigilant against divisive forces that threaten the country’s unity, warning against tribalism, extremism, and political hostility.

Speaking at the inaugural National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, President Mahama emphasized the strength of Ghana’s social fabric, woven from its religious tolerance and cultural diversity.

"Our nation, Ghana, is endowed with resources and natural beauty and something even more precious: spiritual harmony and religious tolerance,” he said.

Highlighting Ghana’s unique example to the world, the President praised the peaceful coexistence between churches and mosques, emphasizing that “they do not compete for dominance but coexist in mutual respect and dignity.” He credited this harmony as a core strength of the Ghanaian identity.

President Mahama, however, cautioned that this peace must be guarded. “Let us remain vigilant against the voices of tribalism, against the voices of religious extremism, and against the poison of political hostility. These are the seeds of division that we must never let take root in our precious nation of Ghana.”

He urged citizens to continue nurturing a culture of peace, compassion, and mutual respect. “We must build bridges and not barriers, for we are one people sharing one land and pursuing one identity and destiny,” he concluded.

The maiden National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving brought together religious leaders, civil society, and citizens in a collective appeal for national peace, unity, and divine guidance.
